Tomorrow is the day . . .

Sorry I haven't been updating - been trying to get ready for the baby! Anyway, I'm being induced tomorrow, so hopefully by tomorrow night (I hope) we'll have some news!

Anyway, hope to see you all soon!

4D Ultrasound

So the updates from the week - I (Laura) had an awesome time at the shower at her mom's thrown by Shanna and Sara. Good food, good laughs, and lots of beautiful gifts were SO much appreciated. Chris and his dad hung out, hiking at Laumeier Park and heading to Borders during the "girls" event.

I also thought I was in labor on Wednesday - that was pretty amazing. Turns out I wasn't (false alarm, confirmed by the OB), but they say that it could be any day now.

I updated the page with some pictures of our 4D ultrasound, taken today.

Hope everyone is doing well, and we can't wait to meet baby O'C!

Baby coming soon????

So I (Laura) went to the OB/GYN Thursday. Baby seems to be doing well, other than the fact that the nutrients are going to his brain, lungs, and heart. It's called "head-sparing." and it really means that since the baby's heart is not an efficient pump, his body is not getting an adequate supply of nutrients. Therefore, Mother nature shunts the "good stuff" toward the parts that need it most. Everyone has reassured us that his body will catch up.

The other news is that I'm 50% effaced and 1-2 cm dilated. So it could be days, weeks, or a month. We'll have to see!

You Go Dara!

For those of you who are swimming fans, this is an amazing story. Dara Torres has already made her 5th Olympic team at age 41. Most of the competitors were not ALIVE the first time that she was in an olympics.

Babies like fireworks (apparently)

So Chris and I were watching the Kirkwood fireworks the other night, and as soon as the finale started, the (previously quiet) little guy kicked me REALLY hard right in my hip bone (for you PT people out there, I felt it right in my ASIS.)

Only 7.5 more weeks to go!

Good news

Well as we found out yesterday, the baby is growing well and his heart is doing better - he probably will be able to go home with Laura and Chris and then have his surgery sometime between 2-3 months and 18 months of age. That means we are down to one surgery! How exciting!

Wednesday

What a gorgeous day! Laura headed to have her blood drawn for her 1 hour gestational diabetes screen. It's like drinking the sweetest (and I don't mean in a good way) fruit punch you could imagine, and then waiting an hour while it works its way through your system. Couldn't they just come up with something else, like eating birthday cake? :)

Today in St. Louis. . . :)

Today Chris and Laura headed out to St. John's to meet with Dr. Goel, a pediatric cardiologist, for a second fetal echocardiogram. The result was basically the same as before, which was a diagnosis of an A-V canal defect (the combination of an atrial septal defect, a ventricular septal defect, and some valve issues.) The best description of this, if anyone's interested, is at http://www.stlouischildrens.org/tabid/88/itemid/808/Atrioventricular-Canal-AV-Canal-or-AVC.aspx

The good news is that the pregnancy can continue normally, with no other issues, and Laura can have a "normal" labor and delivery, not a scheduled C-section as previously thought. We are so very lucky to live in a city with such fantastic medical care.

Although this is a very emotionally trying time for everyone, we are also very thankful to have such great family and friends for support. They say that God never gives you anything that you can't handle, but there for a while we were starting to wonder if God had more faith in us than we had in ourselves!
